You know you want to be able to have conversations without second-guessing every word, but right now it feels like you’re questioning everything you say until you think, “Maybe I should just stop talking altogether.”
What you need to understand is that our subconscious often takes control, especially during high-pressure moments.
It’s why when you’re put on the spot, your mind might go blank or you stumble over your words.
It’s essential to understand how it operates and what rules it follows.
This is why it’s so important to create what I call “Brain Rules.“
For example, think of athletes who train their minds to perform under pressure. A basketball player might practice free throws while exhausted, simulating the stress of a game-winning shot. Similarly, musicians often rehearse their pieces at a faster tempo than the performance requires, so when they slow down to the actual speed, it feels manageable.
These are examples of Brain Rules in action.
Brain Rules are personalized guidelines that help your brain function more efficiently under stress.
They help you create a structured approach to learning and using French.
So you can navigate high-pressure situations with confidence and ease.
Our brains have many rules, and each of us has our own set of rules, unique to our experiences and learning style.
High-pressure situations are like trying to drive through heavy traffic during rush hour. The stress and chaos can make it difficult to focus, but with practice and the right strategies, you learn how to navigate it smoothly. Brain Rules help you find the best route through that traffic, ensuring you stay calm and in control.
Moreover, as you progress in your French learning journey, your brain will create different sets of rules.
Under similar circumstances, these rules, or triggers, will start repeating.
The key to Brain Rules is this formula: Triggers + Circumstances = Brain Rules.
Instead of letting our triggers distract us, learn how to use them instead.
Think of it like this… it’s like training a muscle. The more you exercise it under varying conditions, the stronger and more resilient it becomes. Similarly, Brain Rules strengthen your ability to handle conversations in any situation.
This is why I help my clients define and create their own brain rules so they can handle any conversation situation effectively.
Some examples of these rules are:
- Practice your French when you’re tired, low on caffeine, or preoccupied. This allows you to train your brain to function well even when you’re not at your peak.
- Observe how your brain works: what you forget, what you second guess, and which words come naturally. By identifying this, we can develop strategies to address your specific challenges and strengths.
Brain Rules are just one piece of the puzzle in my French Connection Framework.
That’s where I come in – to help you understand yourself as French conversation becomes second nature.
We’ll uncover the ways you, and only you, react in various stressful situations, whether minor or major.
Just like you don’t stop speaking your native language when stress strikes, let’s find a way to do the same in French.
