So, have you ever failed at keeping your New Year’s Resolution?

Or, did you ever feel that you didn’t quite reach the goal you set for yourself?

Even the most brilliant people get derailed because they’re trapped in a toxic & dysfunctional relationship with time!

Yes, you can achieve your dreams and have a rewarding life too — without feeling constantly scattered, stressed, and exhausted.

Here are the exact steps that you can take to become part of the select group of people that successfully achieve their goals.

1. Set the right resolution

Do you want to speak fluently or to be able to watch movies, to speak with your friends or to hold a keynote presentation for your firm?

All these specific details will change the way you look at your resolution, and what you’ll do (or not) about it.

2. Make the plan

Get an appointment book and look at your next 12 months.

When will you register for the program? When will you have the session with your language coach?

When will you make time to practice between the sessions?

Do you plan to? Or you rely solely on the sessions, because both work, but you must be clear about the approach that works best for your lifestyle.

Your lifestyle comes first. Don’t compromise on your favorite activities, and people: factor them in.

3. Change your habits

Learning another language is a lifestyle, and our lifestyle is made out of our habits.

What are your routines? Morning, mid day and evening?

Do you include physical exercise, because that should be a MUST.

I have 15 minutes of yoga in the morning, 30 minute walk with my dog mid day and 20 minute HIIT in the evening.

Routines (habits) are who we become, so be very mindful of them.

Bad Habit: I don’t practice French enough.
Cue: I feel like I need time to myself in the evening.
Routine: I stay up too late watching TV.
Reward: I’m entertained.
Way to change the behavior: Instead of staying up late to watch TV, carve out special time each day to spend by yourself, even if that may mean to practice with my 1-minute podcasts.

4. Sidestep your resolution traps

It’s too much and I have so far to go.

Take one step at a time. The goal should be to make that one step every day. The end goal will show up when you get there. But first, make that baby step. Today.

I can’t stick to the routine:

Maybe the routine is not flexible enough.

Remember: your life comes first. Your lifestyle is your golden standard, which you want to make even more spectacular, so don’t lose perspective.

5. Find a community

We offer you one.

Whether is on Social Media or outside of it, you have two brilliant communities that you can belong to:
DIY French Club – for our group members
J’Ouellette Société – for our VIP 1:1 members

Many people are in both and these two communities overlap, as some of our lovely francophiles belong to both of them.

6. If You Miss Your Goal

YOU DIDN’T FAIL.

You’re your own experiment, so here’s what to try on your second, third or 20th attempt.

Start again.

Every day.

One step in front of the other.

I promise you that you’ll get there by December 31st.
