Basic French – a how to of the French genders: a foolproof solution

basic frenchAre genders tricky for you and do you have challenges with basic French?

In English, nouns don’t have genders, so it may be difficult to adjust to the French way.

However, if you think that German and Latin have 3 genders, you may start to feel better.

Here is an intro to the basic French genders, and to the new you, who will never have problems with these little tricks in the future.

Examples:

« J’ai deux mains: une main droite et une main gauche. Voilà mes mains. »
« J’ai deux bras: un bras droit et un bras gauche. Voilà mes bras. »

How do you learn the genders for all the French words?

The simple and sure way to always know it, is to memorize them.

Consider the gender as being part of the word, rather than an additional element of the nouns.

For example:

« livre » doesn’t mean anything until we add the gender.

« le livre » = the book
« la livre » = the pound

…and there are over 80 words with 2 genders in French – different meaning for each gender.

That is how important genders are in French.

If you still confuse the genders for the words that you aleary know, consider re-learning the words with their genders (in the form of an article).

This is what I do in the J’Ouellette® Intensif program, and people are raving about it – because they get simple solutions applicable in conversation, which they don’t learn about even in the University.

If not now, then when? 🙂
