LEARN HOW TO STOP FORGETTING IN 3 QUICK AND EASY STEPS

stop forgetting So, do you feel like you’re forgetting what you’re learning too quickly?

Check out the article below for 3 quick and easy steps to stop forgetting, and watch the video for some French worth screaming about!

(This week: the verb CRIER – to scream)

You probably are one of the many people who think that they don’t learn well enough.

And that could be the reason you forget. Or is it?

I’d like to remind you that it’s not enough to put in the time and effort, it’s also very important how you are learning.

1. Read out loud everything that you do in French

Believe it or not, our brain is very, very specialized.

If we learn in our mind, we’ll become good learners.

If we learn lists of words, we become good at listing words.

Speak out loud, and you’ll become good speakers.

Which one do you want to become? If it’s the latter, that’s the way you should learn and practice.

This works for anything that you try to learn, and it’s especially true for languages, because here you need to move your mouth in a very specific way to produce very specific sounds.

Whether you read, write, watch or listen to French, you should always speak out loud.

2. Teach someone else

This may be a hard one, if you hold yourself as a ‘beginner’.

Think about this one for a second, however: once you start learning French, you will be better than anyone who didn’t start yet. ; )

So, you can be their teacher.

I don’t know who said this first, but it’s a brilliant morsel of wisdom: “We teach what we need to learn most.”

3. Spend at least 1 minute a day practicing French

In an interview with The New York Times, Benedict Carey, author of How We Learn: The Surprising Truth About When, Where, and Why It Happens, says learning is like watering a lawn.

“You can water a lawn once a week for 90 minutes or three times a week for 30 minutes,” he said. “Spacing out the watering during the week will keep the lawn greener over time.”

I’d go a step further (and make it even easier).

Set a goal of practicing one minute a day, and make that a habit like brushing your teeth.

If you end up practicing longer, good on you, but if you don’t, your brain will thank you for the new lifestyle you create, which helps the “forgetting” become… forgotten.
