WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU BREAK YOUR ROUTINE
Have you ever had a major event in your life that prevented you from keeping up with your daily routine?
Did that event make you feel that you’re falling behind a little, maybe even more, maybe even to the extent that you think you’ll never catch up?
Is that routine, by any chance, learning or making conversation in French?
Read the article below for great tips on what to do when you break your routine, and watch the video for tips on how to make the most of your garage sale this summer.
It’s easy to break your routine. Here’s my story.
There’s no news that I’ve moved a few years ago. Only if it’s the first time you are visiting my blog, then you don’t know.
I moved from a townhouse in the Torontonian suburbs to an apartment in the core downtown Toronto.
Not only a move, but a major lifestyle change.
Besides my daily business routine, I used to have a daily yoga routine, meditation in the morning and night, PLUS a certain way to conduct my life.
All this has been challenged by my move.
What do we do in that case, how to manage the changes, how do we incorporate what we built in years of discipline in our new life?
Don’t let your disruption become your distraction.
First, we shouldn’t punish ourselves for interrupting the routine. Life happens, and we have to be flexible, take care of ourselves (we may need more sleep, a different pattern of our sleep, more time for ourselves to heal from the disruption), take care of the people in our life that we love (be present for them, as they are for us), take care of the systems that we need to have in place (in my case, mail redirection, change of address, etc)
We need to keep the priorities straight
…starting with our own wellbeing.
Also, from our routine, keep what is mandatory, prioritize: our health (rest, eat right), the people in our life (give them attention and love so they know you didn’t disappear), our work, then our other passions (French, yoga/gym, etc).
Most importantly is to not judge ourselves for missing out on our routine for a short period of time. If the routine was daily, make sure you revisit it 2 or 3 times/ week. Then go back to more until you can sustain it daily. Don’t be hard on yourself if you don’t stick to the plan. As long as you have that plan in mind, you are doing more than great.
Life changing events are… well… life changing, so do consider that the first priority is YOU.
NOW IT IS YOUR TURN!
Write in the comments below, what is your favorite thing to do to keep up with your good routines?
