THIS IS THE WORLD CHAMPION CHOCOLATE

world champion chocolateSo, do you like chocolate?

Seems like a rhetorical question, but you’d be surprised to know that there are people out there that can say no to it!

They don’t know what they’re losing out on, no?

Check out the article below to meet the best chocolatier in the world, and watch the video for some French that will give you a good feeling!

(This week: the verb SENTIR – to smell, to feel)

He sits against what only I can imagine are bags of cocoa, and speaks about being part of the oldest family who is passing the chocolate savoir faire from father to son. An approachable man from Voiron who has complete control over the best chocolate in the world – and over our lives.

Easter is the most chocolaty holiday of the year. Over 90 million chocolate bunnies stand proof that Stéphane Bonnat reins an unimaginably large kingdom – the modern Willy Wonka of the best kind. He won multiple gold medals as world champion chocolate at the International Chocolate Awards – he knows what Easter should be made of – but keeps the secret and gives away the Paradise one chocolate bar at a time.

Imagine the bells of the French churches flying off to Rome to visit the Pope – as the story goes. Imagine the chocolate bells without a secret – the Bonnat secret. How much less mysterious and desirable would they be? We would be left with the raw eggs tossed in the air by children, the gigot d’agneau pascal or pâté des pâques, but we would be missing the heart of the Easter tradition, le chocolat.

We wouldn’t have sayings like « tout le monde mange les œufs de chocolat » or « attention à l’indigéstion », we wouldn’t collect « fritures de pâques » or organize « la chasse aux œufs ». All our effort to prepare ourselves during the 47 days after Mardi Gras, the Lent, would be in vain. Or at least with less gravitas.

Listen to him sharing his dreams for the future of Bonnat chocolate.

This is how important M. Bonnat is for the modern world, the champion of savoir faire of the one of the best chocolates in the world, certainly the best French chocolate. If you didn’t taste it yet, order it at worldwidechocolate.com. If you missed our French trivia contest, or even if you didn‘t have the time to participate, the best chocolate in the world may just be the right fix for you.

Or maybe just watching his adventure to discovering the yet undiscovered future flavors of Bonnat chocolate.

I love chocolate…alas milk chocolate not dark chocolate though the latter is better for one’s health. I love English chocolate, Cadbury. I don’t love American chocolate. Easter would be so empty without chocolate. My boys love their chocolate bunny–one milk chocolate, one white chocolate. Loved this post, it felt so French and respectful of elders, masters at their craft. Infusing French phrases makes me long for France.
