« LE COIN FRANCOPHONE » SERIES: #1 RACHEL

fantastic night

Bonjour à tous !

My name is Rachel Ford. I started Llyane’s J’Ouellette Extensif program in October 2019.

I studied French in high school years ago and remember some vocabulary, but not much grammar, from that time.

In 2017, I started traveling to France several times a year for my job. My business is officially conducted in English, but many documents and some emails come to me in French.

In January 2019, I made a New Year’s resolution to myself to begin studying French again.

Although I thought it would be useful to me professionally, my biggest motivation was personal. I didn’t want to look back on this time and regret that I didn’t take advantage of my travels to improve my French.

At first I mainly used on-line self study programs and then in September I took a one week immersion course in France.

I came back motivated to take my studies to the next level and found Llyane.

I would put myself at an A1-A2 level when I started the Extensif program. Some of the early lessons were strictly review for me, but even for those I appreciated the structure and the review they provided.

Now, I am almost halfway through the program (finishing the high beginner level – A2) and am excited to keep going.

One of my favorite parts of the program is Llyane’s suggestion to write short stories in French, like the one here.

I hope that you like it!

Such a great idea Llyane to have students write short stories! Thank you for sharing. Rachel’s story reminds me so much of a night like this in Paris a few years ago. Paris by night is so beautiful. How lucky for Rachel to be able to travel frequently to Paris and get to see the seasonal changes and beauty.

Wow – that’s a big leap from only remembering some French vocabulary to writing a short story in French. Speaking fluent French is one of my goals for future years (after my current project) – I’m bookmarking this page!
