Make stories
Yes, this is the way to learn the fastest in the least boring way.
Don’t be scared to make stories, and stop considering yourself a lousy story teller.
What you ate for breakfast or what you saw during your commute are exciting enough to tell in French.
The secret is to make sentences that mean something to you, about things you experience every day, and which you could talk about in normal conversation.
Try it, it’s going to become easier and easier!
Don’t memorize words or verbs
Memorizing the words on flash cards and verbs in lists prepares you to recite lists of words and of verbs.
If you want to become great in the French conversation, practice your words in context, making sentences that mean something to you.
Don’t just put words together, talk about something that involves you emotionally: information + emotion = memory.
Ask your French coach to do what you enjoy the most
Really do.
Don’t wait to be hand held, or to follow their method, their structure.
Become an active part of the course you’re taking, help your coach create a course that is tailored for you.
Do you like to tell stories? Then ask for it. If you like to talk about movies, do that. If you love writing, do it.
That puts the responsibility in your lap, and you’ll respond much better to a course that you co-create.
